We're Home

After traveling for 25 plus hours, we are home!  We had to take a short flight to Beijing, with a 5 hour layover there, and then the very long flight home.  Thankfully baba worked some magic and HouLiang slept about 8-10 hours of the 13 hour flight.....and he may have helped some other passengers fall sleep with all the singing he had to do 😁.  HouLiang was a trooper and did great, all things considered.
On our way home from the airport we stopped at a rest area for dinner. He enjoyed a piece of pizza and a trip to the bathroom (yes, the American bathrooms are just as exciting as the bathrooms in China). He also discovered something he had never seen before; a drinking fountain. He immediately found the button to activate it and stuck his face in it. After James explained what it was and how to use it he was very excited. So excited that he needed to show mama as soon as they returned to the table.
A few days before we left China HouLiang found a key in our stuff and we explained to him that it was to our house, his "new home". James had made a video tour of our house and this seemed like the perfect time to show it to him.  He was excited to watch the video and watched it 6-7 times in a row, even asking if he could use the key to unlock the door when we got there. We were so thankful that he was excited about going to "new home"!  On the drive home we watched the video again in preparation of our arrival.  After pulling in the driveway he eagerly asked for the key.  We let him unlock the door and then explore his new home.  Words cannot describe what it was like to watch him explore everything.  He was so curious, exploring every room and opening every door, and was all smiles with frequent utterings of "wow".
It was pretty late by the time he finished exploring and playing with some of his new toys.  We went through our normal bedtime routine and thought he was down for the night.....unfortunately not, he woke up again and didn't fall back asleep until about 4 in the morning.

We will all be home together for the next 2 weeks and are looking forward to getting settled into a routine......and maybe catching up on some sleep if we are lucky.  Our plan is to continue to blog during this transitional time.  So if you aren't sick of bathroom stories and other adventures of a newly adopted 5 year and his first time parents, keep checking for updates.

  1. This is wonderful! Keep them coming! I can only imagine how the jet lag is affecting you all. Good that you have some time to adjust to it, and each other. Super cool that he was excited about the new house. Also, I just talked with a friend who moved into your neighborhood, she has a 4 y/o son who wants to be friends with Luke! Let me know when he’s ready to expand his circle of friends 🤗
