First 10 English Words

His first 10 English words, in no particular order.
  1. No - amazing how quickly kids learn and use this word
  2. Up and Down - first learned when we were in China using the elevators in the hotels, and from one of his favorite books (Bernstein Bears and The Big Road Race).  Now used as we drive places, there is a cute voice from the backseat "up, up, up" or "down, down, down".  We have recently added around and straight.
  3. Snack - I think we hear this word no less than 10 times a day, and sometimes it is immediately after we have finished a meal.  He brings his plate into the kitchen, walks to the pantry and says snack.
  4. Water- We learned this simple word can work for so many things from swimming, puddle splashing and bath to drink.
  5. Spicy - This was first conveyed by panting but we quickly made the connection.  He likes spicy food!  Remember the spicy sauce he likes to put on everything?  We found it at Wegmans......thank goodness, as we were down to half a jar and we don't want the kid to starve ;0)
  6. Strong - He would squeeze BaBa's arm and say not strong, HouLiang strong! When asked if his Uncle Peter is strong he would enthusiastically say yes but baba not strong.  When we first got home we were having some trouble getting him to eat veggies so James told him that vegetables make you strong.  Thankfully that did the trick!  Now when we have veggies he takes a serving and says strong when he eats them.......and then flexes his "muscles" for us to check how strong he is.
  7. Beep Beep - used when we were in the taxis in China and when driving pretend cars.  Recently used when in the grocery store.  We were walking down an aisle that was pretty crowded, and waiting for someone to move, when he started saying beep, beep.  The person in front of us didn't seem like they would appreciate his cuteness.  I tried to explain to him that we needed to wait our turn but not sure how well that was understood as when we turned the corner someone else was in front of us, an elderly lady, and he immediately said beep, beep again.
  8. Fast - first learned when riding his bike and wanting to go fast.  Now said every time we get in the car "fast, fast".  We tried to explain that we go fast on the highway but he still tells us to go fast on every ride and on every road.
  9. Lunch - he is still learning the meaning of this word as he calls every meal "lunch".
  10. Help me please (or in some cases said as "help you please") - He is always eager to help in everything we do (even if he does not know what we are doing)!
